All things are infused with energy:  our bodies as well as the world around us.  We know this energy by names such as prana, chi or consciousness. It is infused in us at the point of conception and is cellular intelligence.

Any intervention with a living system involves energy, and as such, all medicine is energy medicine. Science has confirmed the body both creates and responds to energy in many forms:  electric, magnetic, chemical, pressure, heat, sound, light.  We see this commonly in medical technologies using different forms of energy for diagnosis and treatment including X-rays and MRIs, electrocardiograms, electroencephalograms, magnetocardiograms, magnetoencephalograms, lasers, pacemakers, etc. Reiki is simply another form of energy healing based on scientifically measurable energy fields projected from the trained practitioner's hands.   

We are born with the ability to heal ourselves.  Our bodies are continuously seeking balance or equilibrium, a state of homeostasis, and it is energy that allows the body to repair.  Reiki energy is used to assist in the healing process and return the body to balance. Energy from the practitioner is used to induce current flows in the tissues and cells of individuals.  This current has the ability to stimulate healing in bodily tissue by opening up communication and transportation channels between cells, allowing them to fight disease and initiate repair.  This healing energy also improves immune functions through its calming effect on the nervous system.
